Effective viral marketing, an integrated approach - part 1

Since the media theorist Rushkoff described a new concept of how the marketing message could be spread over Internet, viral marketing (VM) or “Going Viral” becomes a phenomenon. But what it is, and more important, how to use it most effectively are not always clear, even to many marketers. Everybody knows that the cost per reach of traditional mass media, including TV, radio and news paper become more costly, but is it really true that viral marketing could help to bring that number down?

Facebook, Google and privacy

Honestly, I never worry much about privacy on Internet before. In Vietnam, we do not care much about those things. However, since I came to Singapore, chit chat with some foreign friends, they constant reminding me about this issue.

One of my old habit before accepting any friend request for IM is  do a quick search on who is adding me. Nothing seriously here, i just want to know how could they found my nickname, and how we know each other. And from time to time, it always surprises me on how much information I can pull from Google about that person, not only the real name, photo, and sometimes even contact numbers and everything. I can tell where they live, what their hobbies are, etc. with those information. Not so bad for a trace by just a nickname huh?

Mix culture and coordinator

I didn't write any thing in long time any blog or article in long time, university works took all the focus recently. And honestly, the main reason is laziness strikes again.

After spending quite a long time in Singapore, I could observing many interesting things on how different people from different culture behave differently. Before that, i used to wondering how could Singapore can transform itself in just a very short time. Mix culture plays important role here. Conflict does help to push things forward, encourage change. But how about the negative side of it?

Monkey thinking - what laptop i should buy.

I have to admit that I'm a computer addict. I could spent 12-18 hours a day in front of my computer and try to get access to internet anytime possible. I could use my wife PC at home, however, when the school start and i usually stay at school for 6-7 hours everyday, a laptop became necessary. It's time to searching for a new one.

As a customer, i have a preferred list of brands that i want to buy from. Sorry to say that HP, Compaq, Toshiba and Acer are never in that list. Bias? yes, but i just don't like them due to some really bad experiences in the past. Therefore the list is left with Apple, Sony, Dell and Lenovo. I don't care much about the i5, i7 or other super power CPUs, GPUs, RAMs, HDDs out there because i prefer to use PC whenever i'm home due to big screen and much more comfortable. No laptops could come close to it. Another more problem is i'm also super lazy, even the thought of carry a 3kg laptop around could make me sick.

Why blog?

Yes, i knew that not everyone still blogging. People are talking about Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Buzz, etc now. In fact, i love all of them, you could say that i'm an fan of almost every service above. But blogging still has it own realm, similar to people still writing their diary with pen and paper.

To be honest, i used to think that blogging and reading blogs is wasted of time. In some aspects, it is true because people spent too much time, especially office time to reading personal blogs. However, in one way or another, blog is a good way to express yourself more deep and  formal than Twitter or Facebook.
